Another door closes.

“On completion of my degree I would like to advance towards taking a PGCE in IT for Primary or Secondary school pupils.  I have a passion for the subject and feel that I could introduce a new generation in to the creative field of IT and inspire them to further their studies in the subject the way I have done.”

An actual quote, written by me, over 3 years ago. How times do change a person.

The question floating around everyone’s mind these days is this; What comes next? Do I further my education? Get a job? Take a gap year? There are endless choices. Something that I didn’t fully realise until recently.

The quote above was set in stone for me. 3 years of University followed by a PGCE and I could teach. I could have a classroom full of bright eyed children looking to me to inspire and educate them. To prepare them for their future. That was what I was going to do. No other options.

But there are thousands of options. Things my brain just didn’t click on to until a little later. So there I was. Spending weeks sat in the back of a classroom, shadowing teachers, making notes, preparing for my future. And I have to admit it; I was bored. No disrespect for teachers at all (they are absolute miracle workers doing what they do), but this is when I started to second guess myself. And it took one trip and a whole lot of research to snap my brain in to gear.

I recently took a trip to London with my parents to watch the ATP World Tour Finals at the O2 Arena. No, I’m not going to become a world famous WTA tennis player, calm down!

It was the buzz, the electricity, the never ending noise. London. The capital of our great United Kingdom, full of hope, opportunity and promise. It filled me with energy. Energy I’d been lacking for quite some time now. That is exactly what I need.

So I made my decision. Teaching isn’t for me. At least not right now. But there are passions of mine that give me that same buzz I felt in good ole London town. Things that I’m already doing in everyday life. These are the things I need right now. So it’s back to the grindstone. Trolling the thousands of graduate websites, filling in countless applications and hoping there’s something out there with my name on it.

And who knows. Maybe one day I’ll be answering to the cries of “Miss!” once again.

All the time in the world…

Well…that’s what we like to think. But then we realise just how busy our lives actually are. I have finished all of my exams, finally. Phew! And have now been thrust in to the face of reality. Full-time work, 9-4 (lucky for me), 5 days a week. No, I haven’t graduated quite yet. We have begun our 5 week placements for our Work Based Learning module.

Now 5 weeks doesn’t seem so bad does it? No I didn’t think so too. Until mine turned in to 6!

Words, words, words.

“It is so nice when you can sit with someone and not have to talk.” – Nora Ephron

The act of screenwriting is one of importance. The words you write on the page reflects how we feel as audience. It decides whether we laugh, cry, feel empathy, or dislike. It is the basis on which we form an opinion of a character or situation.

I have recently been given the chance to try a bit of screenwriting for one of my University projects. It wasn’t until I sat down at my desk and stared at the blank white page that a thousand different questions fired in front of me. What do I want to tell? How do I want people to feel? Do I want people to hate this character, or is he just misunderstood?

That’s when I really saw just how much pressure there is on a screenwriter. Not only do they write the words that actors perform, but they also have to write HOW those words will be performed, how they will be absorbed and how they may affect the audience for the rest of their lives.

Will screenwriting become a new part of my life? I sure hope so. Lets just see where the words take me.

Allo Allo!

Brief update.

So once again I have failed you. I promised and promised and promised that I would keep up to date and I have let you down. I’ve just had things going on recently that I’ve had to do and take care of that made it so I didn’t manage to find time to update and I am profoundly sorry.

Now it’s almost 10pm and I have a 9am start tomorrow morning (shudder), so this will have to be kept brief. So, what have I been up to recently?….

Best department ever.

So Sunday 26th September 2011 started one of the biggest journeys of my life, I became a University student and I am enjoying it so much already!! I must admit that it is weird having to get the bus everyday but it all adds to the feeling of independence that University life has (despite the fact that I am still living at home) 😛

Yesterday we had an induction to our course and it is absolutely amazing. We first had a 30 minute long welcome talk with the whole department which was actually really funny and then we went off with the Multimedia Studies group and spent most of the day with them doing group activities which really helped to get everyone talking with each other.

The best part was in the afternoon, we had this hour long group session with the Computer Science students as well and basically played Xbox, Wii, wrapped our programme heads up in toilet paper, had food and drink and chatted with different people. Met two of the 3rd year Computer science students, Dom and Briony, who are awesome! Get to hang out with them again tomorrow 😀

Tomorrow should definately be interesting. Get to go around campus dressed up as pirates doing fun activites. Apparently we will get to have a go with some gadgets, look at Windows8 and eat donughts (taken from Dom’s tweet :P)

So yeh, really looking forward to this year. And as the title says; best. department. ever!

University here we come!!!

So, all that fretting and panicking for 2+ months was all for nothing. Because as of September 2011….Chester University here I come!!! 😀 I am so happy right now! I was such a nervous wreck yesterday when I checked UCAS early in the morning, but since then I’ve just been on an all time high!

My results were surprisingly good, B’s in IT, Media Studies and General Studies. I got a D in my English Literature which I was expecting so I didn’t let it get me down. I was just focussing on the fact that I got in to University! 😛

I absolutely can’t wait to get stuck in, it is going to be such a brilliant experience. And one that I get to share with a lot of my friends from High School which is an added bonus!

I hope that everyone else got what they wanted, you all deserve to do well and Congratulations to you all 🙂
